Reprieve For Ruto As Uhuru Allows Amendment Of BBI Report

Date:

President Uhuru Kenyatta this evening tipped that there will be an open window for amendment of the Building Bridged Initiative (BBI) report.

The decision comes after the report was unveiled in Bomas of Kenya with leaders having different views on amending the document. Deputy president William Ruto had earlier proposed that BBI should offer a window for dialogue.

However, Ruto’s views faced resistance from the pro- handshake leaders. Led by Atwoli, the leaders claimed that Ruto was just engaging in delaying tactic in a bid to drag the whole process.

Minority leader in parliament John Mbadi also told Ruto off on his dialogue proposal. Mbadi argued that Ruto had squandered his opportunity and that it was too late to amend the document.

Leaders allied to the deputy president went ahead to criticize pro handshake leaders for taking that stand. According to them, the document needed further dialogue to ensure that all views are captured before the looming referendum.

Uhuru’s change of tune to allow changes on the document is a reprieve for DP Ruto who has on several occasions advocated for the same.
