Raila Odinga Drums Up Support For BBI In West Pokot

Orange Democratic Movement Leader Raila Amollo Odinga on Tuesday drummed up support for the Building Bridges Initiative in West Pokot.

This comes a day after the BBI Naivasha retreat that was led by Raila Odinga together with President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Retreat was meant for chatting the way forward on the implementation of BBI ahead of the looming referendum.

The Naivasha retreat was attended by over 200 hundred legislatures across the region except those allied to the Deputy president.

While at Pokot West, the opposition leader met a congregation  at Dini Ya Roho Church in Tamugh region to celebrate their eighth anniversary. He also presided over a fund raising for this church.

Mr. Odinga urged the residents to rally behind the recently released Building Bridges Initiative terming it good for the nation. He told them to brace themselves for the oncoming constitutional changes as proposed in the report.

Raila added that the proposals will enhance equity in the use of public funds, end discrimination, and increase the county allocation. According to Odinga, BBI will be the only avenue to fully realize the 2010 constitution.

“What we want is to actualize the dreams of the 2010 constitution. This is why we have increased allocation to devolution. This will address the cries of Kenyans who say they have not seen development.” Said Raila.

Mr. Odinga went ahead to articulate about the proposed ward development fund that will see MCAs have enough resources. Furthermore, Kenyan women will equally have a chance to be represented according to Odinga.

He thanked the church for being at the fore front in preserving African way of Worship. Dini Ya Roho Mafuta Pole Mtakatifu is one of those churches that resisted colonialism through their founder Lukas Pkech. The church has played significant roles in the community by promoting health and educational programs.
