Ugandan doctors kneel before President Museveni begging him to run again in 2026 elections

Date:

President Museveni has held the position of power since he used guerilla tactics to seize it in 1986.

A group of Ugandan doctors are coming under heavy fire after pleading with President Yoweri Museveni to run for office in 2026 while on their knees.

The medical staff was led by Dr. Samuel Odong Oledo, their president, who was dressed in full medical regalia.

Dr. Oledo said in Luganda, “Your Excellency, thank you, y ou have encouraged us (medical practitioners). We determine that you are capable and bow before you. We determined that you possess the capacity. There is nothing you lack. Help us out and run for office again in 2026. As you protect our future, lead us forward. Uganda needs to get to where God wants it to be.”

Members of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) and other authorities are now calling for Dr. Oledo to quit since what he did doesn’t really align with their principles.

Oledo made the remarks in his individual capacity and not on behalf of the UMA, according to the association’s secretary general, Herbert Luswata, and vice president Edith Nakku-Jolaba.
