KAA Responds Over JKIA Leaking Roof

Date:

Services have been paralysed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following heavy rains experienced in the country.

In a viral video shared by media personality Larry Madowo, the roof of the international airport was leaking disrupting services, especially in the luggage section.

Responding to the concerns raised by Kenyans over the situation at JKIA, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) explained the roof leakages at Terminals 1B and 1C of JKIA were caused by heavy rainfall in Nairobi.

KAA detailed that the temporary infrastructure placed by the contractor could not sustain the impact of the heavy rainfall.

However, the Airports Authority explained that the contractor has been given three months starting from March 2024 to finish the works.

This followed the directive from Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

“Works commenced in March 2024 for three (3) months. Over the last few days, the heavy rainfall in Nairobi has adversely impacted on the temporary drainage infrastructure put by the contractor on site, resulting in the current leakages being experienced at the terminal,” the statement read in part.

“This is being mitigated as works progress and the contractor has been instructed to complete the works on schedule,” it added.

The Authority apologised to the passengers whose travelling plans were affected by the service hitch promising to expedite the repairs works.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding. KAA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of service,” KAA explained.
