Man Rescued After Charcoal He Was Transporting Burst Into Flames

Date:

A charcoal supplier in Trans Nzoia county is lucky to be alive after surviving  a fire incident when he was transporting bags of charcoal.

The business man, who was only identified as Makaa, was transporting 8 bags of charcoal on a motorcycle on Wednesday when one of the bags burst into flames at Matisi area along Kitale-Endebess road.

Locals who witnessed the incident rushed to rescue the middle aged man and also put out the fire that was spreading.

Joseph Wanyonyi, a local, said that  they stopped the businessman when they saw smoke coming from his motorcycle in a bid to establish what was transpiring.

“At first when we saw the smoke, we thought he  was cooking while riding but on a close observation, we realized that his luggage had caught fire posing a huge risk to his life,” Wanyonyi said.

“Imagine what could have happened if this incident happened in a place where there are no people?” another eyewitness, Mwangi Gitonga posed.

Giitonga further called upon charcoal traders to be careful as such incidents endanger their lives.
