Since Sunday July 17, Sports CS Amina Mohammed’s daughter Firyal Nur has been trending for all the wrong reasons.
This is after her photo together with sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala went viral just after Omanyala failed to qualify for the 100m men’s finals in Oregon’s World Athletic Championships.
Firyal was accused of being among the 32 joyriders that were ferried to Oregon, US, by the ministry of sports at the expense of athletes.
Omanyala, a few of his colleagues and several officials of Athletics Kenya were stranded due to visa delays with the ministry of sports accused of selling first slots of the Oregon delegation to the joyriders who parted with up to Kshs2 million.Â
The US embassy was forced to withhold Omanyala’s visa after realizing that the number of those heading to Oregon had exceeded 80, as approved by Athletics Kenya.
The viral photo was however not taken in Oregon as alleged. A fact check confirms that the photo was taken in Kasarani during the Kipkeino classics in May this year.
Firyal shared the photo on her verified Instagram account captioning it, “Congratulations to the #KingofAfrica and the fastest man on the continent. @ferdiomanyala.”
No evidence has been provided to prove that she was among the 32 joyriders that are to blame for the standoff which is believed to have led to Omanyala’s loss.
Firyal is however a top fashion designer, model and business woman based in New York, US and that rules out the fact that she would scramble for free flights.
Nur launched her clothline dubbed Nur clothing back in 2013 and in 2014 she dressed top reality star Kim Kardashian and her ex husband Kanye West. Aside from her clothline, she has worked for Gucci. In 2019, she got a promotion and landed the role of Brand and Culture Manager of Gucci.
CS Amina’s daughter also spent most of her life abroad where she undertook her primary and high school studies. She only returned to the country to study a degree in International relations at United States International University in Nairobi and graduated in 2012.
