Intrigues Behind Ekuru Aukot’s Plan To Frustrate Raila Odinga’s Presidential Candidature

Date:

Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot is seeking to have Raila Odinga’s clearance for the presidential race reversed.

Aukot announced that he will be filing a petition in court on Monday 6, just a day after the ODM leader was cleared to vie for the presidency.

He claimed that Raila’s bid is funded by the government and that Azimio la Umoja has no natural members.

“Odinga has been sponsored by the State, hence the use of government resources in financing his bid,” Aukot said.

The presidnetial hopeful announced that moments after his application was rejected for failing to meet some of the requirements, including the availing 48,000 signatures supporting his presidential bid and copies of ID cards of his supporters.

“No Kenyan is willing to give you his ID card to photocopy, let us be realistic. I’m even wondering where the cleared candidates got the photocopied ID cards of Kenyans from,” Aukot said.

His motive however left Kenyans wondering why he would direct his anger towards Raila alone, yet it was IEBC that had declined to clear him with others saying that he might have been paid to frustrate Odinga’s bid.

“Akule pesa ya Sugoi pole pole,” Erick Otieno said.

“Amelipwa na Arap Mashamba kuchafulia Baba, why is he not suing Kenya Kwisha kama he’s genuine,” Baba Maria said.

“While other presidential candidates are busy campaigning to get votes Aukot is busy fighting Raila with non issues. He an agent of Ruto!” another Twitter user said.

Unbothered by whatever Kenyan on Twitter were saying, Aukot further accused IEBC of being biased  and favoring one of the presidential candidates.

“For the records: “failing” to submit copies of IDs, which we will explain in a few hours. We will also tell you how @IEBCKenyais biased and already rigging this election in favour of one candidate. Relax,” he said on Twitter.

This will be the second time that Aukot will be seeking to have Raila barred from the August general elections.

In April this year, he moved to court, alongside his party chairman Miruru Waweru, seeking to have the ODM leader, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka barred from the forthcoming elections.

They argued that the trio are lifetime public servants who can not resign to join elective politics.

They claimed that the three leaders were handed advisory roles following an act that was enacted by parliament in 2015 under Act 8 on Deputy President and Designated State Officers

“The Act recognizes the entitled persons and grants them both a generous retirement package and an obligation to serve as advisors to the government and the people of Kenya,” part of their petition read.

In 2017, after deciding to participate in the repeat of election, Aukot was also accused of being paid by Jubilee to compete against president Uhuru Kenyatta to avoid a constitutional crisis, after all the other presidential aspirants backed out of the repeat of election following a successful petition that saw the nullification of the August 2017 polls.

According to him, the then Nasa party leaders attempted to talk him out of the race so as to cause the constitutional crisis.

“It was stupid and mediocre for some people to imagine that I had been given money to remain in the race. They even said that it is my wife who went to collect the money but it is all stupid. It is the work of political conmen,” he said.
