Kiminini member of parliament Chris Wamalwa is not having it easy on the ground several weeks after shifting his political loyalty to the deputy president.
According to a source close to Chris Wamalwa who requested for anonymity, the member of parliament is regretting his blind move to follow Amani national Congress (ANC) leader and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula to William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
On Wednesday during their campaign in Trans Nzoia county, Chris wamalwa, Moses Wetangula, William Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi came face to face with the reality on the ground.
The leaders were literally shocked as TransNzoia voters chanted Natembeya na Azimio as the leaders gave their speech. In fact, Wetangula was forced to beg by singing “vijana tulieni” since they were not interested in listening to their Kenya Kwanza ideology.
The noisy crowd would not give the leaders ample time to address them at Kenyatta stadium in Kitale, an indication that they were not ready to support them.
“In the year 2013 you remember I came with Raila Odinga, 2017 I came with Raila and Musalia. We told you we want to form the government but we did not manage, we realized…..Kijana…do you want to listen…wacha hio kijana,” Wetang’ula said in the midst of his speech
Another difficult moment during his address was when he tried to plead with the Kitale locals to vote for Kiminini MP as the governor of Trans Nzoia county and give DAP/ODM a wide berth.
“Finally as I finish, I request you to choose your governor carefully in the coming election,There are people who have brought a person from the DAP party. That party is just ODM. Team Kenya Kwanza Alliance we have brought you a candidate and that is Chris Wamalwa,” Wetang’ula said.
The crowd however openly rejected him with gestures and shouting but the Bungoma senator proceeded saying, “That is the candidate you will talk and walk with. My final word is that from the bottom to the top most position in elections should be Kenya Kwanza that is MCA, MP, senator, governor and president”
This comes just a day after the Kenya Kwanza leaders were booed in Western Kenya when William Ruto was speaking. The deputy president was telling the residents to reject the Kitendawili man but all his wishes were thwarted by the crowd which was chanting “Azimio” “Raila” “Azimio” “Azimio”
Prior to joining William Ruto’s UDA, Chris wamalwa was popular on the ground but it seems that popularity is gone with the wind the day he joined Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to the United Democratic Alliance.
There were rumors that natembeya was planning to resign and join UDA but it seems his political advisors listened to the ground before he made his move to join Azimio. Currently, Natembeya enjoys popularity in Trans nzoia and not even Musalia/Weta/Ruto combined can stop him given how the Kenya Kwanza brigade have found the ground in Western Kenya very hostile to them.
Another incident came out when the Nambale parliamentary aspirant Bernard Nandieki who accompanied William Ruto urged the residents to support his parliamentary seat and vote for Raila Odinga’s Azimio in the looming general elections.
“We want change! This time there will be no games, I will be elected MP for Nambale constituency. So I ask you, the people of Nambale to vote for Azimio…” he said.
In the meantime, George Natembeya recently made it clear that Chris wamalwa only deserves the seat of an MCA since his 10 years of leadership has led to nothing substantial for the people. The former Rift valley county commissioner was speaking during the launch of a health facility at St John’s Catholic Church in Sirende, Kiminini constituency.
“If we are looking at experience, I have 25 years, and you (Chris Wamalwa) has 10 years. If we have all decided that there is a problem in Trans Nzoia, then it will mean, because of my 25-year experience, I will contest for governor and you contest for MCA,” Natembeya said, attracting the fury of some youth perceived to be Dr Wamalwa’s supporters.
