DP Ruto seeking Prayers, Uhuru Trusting Gideon Moi & More Politics highlights

Date:

While the country is on a war battling COVID-19, Politics have not stopped, Reggae must go on. With the 2022 General elections not too far away, politicians are already shaping up their strategies. Here are top highlights that made the headlines this week:

Nothing but prayer! Deputy President William Ruto turned to spiritual leaders asking them to pray for his political allies. Ruto on Saturday said it is so unfortunate that those who support him have been subjected to unnecessary humiliation and frustration.

Ruto was speaking during a prayer meeting with the association of Bishops from Rift Valley led by Bishop Eliud Karanja of WorldWide Church, Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County.

“The ethnic divisions we used to witness have now turned into political divisions. Right now some politicians have been humiliated and frustrated, others have been removed from their positions just because they are friends to the deputy president. I want you to pray for them so that they can have patience. Let them know that despite the turbulence we need to stay as brothers and sisters because our patience will help us do campaigns that have no divisions”.he said.

Ruto said to make it worse, some other politicians are being threatened with courts, others being told they will be taken to KRA or EACC, others threatened that they will lose their political positions not because they are guilty of any offense but just supporting him.

Ruto challenged the bishops to pray for the devil that is dividing the country along political lines so that God may help the entire country to stay put together.

Ruto’s sentiments come amid widening rift between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta who is Jubilee Party leader.

I trust you! President Uhuru Kenyatta has chosen Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to represent him at the inauguration of newly-elected Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera

The event is set for Monday, July 6, with President Chakwera scheduled to take an official public inauguration and celebration of Malawi’s national day despite him already taking an oath.

Normally, it would have been expected that Deputy President Wiliam Ruto would have been the default choice to represent the President in international events. Ministry of Foreign Affairs PS Macharia Kamau confirmed the decision and revealed why Senator Moi was chosen.

“Mr. Moi is leading the government delegation that also has (Foreign Affairs) Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba. He is a senior Senator and will sufficiently represent the Head of State,” noted Macharia Kamau.

In Kitui County, the plan to impeach  Governor Charity Ngilu took a twist after it emerged that one of the grounds for her removal could be based on forged Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) documents.

The notice of the motion by County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Kilonzo lists 12 grounds for removing the governor from office. However, one of the issues raised is still being investigated by the police.

However, the governor’s lawyers scrutinized the documents and the evidence given by the ward representatives and said the import declaration forms were forged.

According to Mrs. Ngilu’s lead counsel Martin Oloo, the documents were altered by inserting phone contacts to create the impression that the governor’s family is linked to the deal.

Elsewhere, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Saturday, July 4, withdrew a list of people proposed to constitute the reconciliation committee.

In a statement to newsrooms, the county boss observed that after putting out the list she got feedback against the team.

“Having listened to the feedback shared on the above list and in consideration of the same, we wish to withdraw the proposed names to give room for further consultations,” she stated.

A failed impeachment motion by the MCAs at the senate has led to a standoff between the governor and the members.
