Kenya Railways Suspends All Nairobi Trains

Date:

Kenya Railway Corporation has suspended all Nairobi commuter train services with immediate effect.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, April 24, Kenya Railways noted that the decision follows the flooding of the railway lines in various parts of the city.

Kenya Railways further attributed the decision to ensuring the safety of thousands of customers using the commuter train services in the city.

“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing heavy rains that have affected the rail lines,” the notice read in part.

“We are compelled to take these precautionary measures because the safety of our customers is always of paramount importance to us. We will advise you once normal services resume. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Kenya Railways added.

The trains serve various routes in the city including Syokimau, Pipeline, Njiru and Kikuyu among other areas.

Following the heavy rains, the Kenya Urban Authority (KURA) has also announced the temporary closure of some highways in the city due to flooding.

“Following the heavy rains experienced last night across the country, the following roads within Nairobi County have been heavily affected leading to partial closure,” KURA stated.

“Aerodrome road, Kapenguria road, UN Avenue – Runda, Kasarani Mwiki Road at Mwiki Bridge. Motorists are also warned of flooding along Mombasa Road at Cabanas, Thika road at Githurai/ Kahawa bridge,” the notice added.

The traffic police and our technical team are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of Motorists. We shall keep you posted as the situation unfolds, KURA further explained.
