Details Of Properties Worth Kshs257 Million Owned By Prison Cleaner Eric Kipkurui Mutai

Date:

Eric Mutai Kipkurui left Kenyans in awe after it emerged that he had properties worth Kshs257 million yet he is just a Prison cleaner.

It is difficult to believe that he was able to acquire such wealth in a short period of time considering that his monthly salary is only Kshs20, 800.

Mutai works as a cleaning supervisor at the State’s Department of correction and he is currently on the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission radar.

Mutai’s assets have been frozen for 6 months after EACC obtained court orders as investigations into Kshs450 million graft scandal, through supply of food and rations that were never delivered, in the correctional department are concluded. The money is said to have been paid to 18 firms.

This is the second major scandal to rock Kenya Prisons Services after the 4.8 billion one in 2019.

Investigations have so far established that Mutai fraudulently acquired S13 forms that are used for procurement in the corrections department to supply goods in prison facilities which never occurred.

He was paid for the ghost services through his bank account in 2016 and 2017. He then withdrew the money to purchase the assets that are currently under his name.

Mutai owns 7 companies that were registered between 2012-2017. The companies were registered under a third party to conceal his involvement with them with their Bank accounts being opened in 2016 and 2017.

The 7 companies are: Facton Logistics Enterprises, Nerimas General Agencies, Trechis Services Limited, White Unicorn Logistics, Unique Suppliers, Homex Logistics Enterprises  and Hygienic Ventures.

Mutai has 7 cars under registration numbers: KCH 360G, KCL 050T, KCH 593S, KCL 125R, KCN 475L, KCN 417B, KCL 778P. The cars are valued at ksh30.5 million and were purchased in 2017 between May and November.

He also owns three parcels of land in  Nairobi, Kisii and Kericho all valued at ksh57 million as well as 3 houses, one in Nairobi.
