Date:

The National Police Service has come out to clarify viral rumors that the outgoing Kenya Prisons Service Commissioner General Mr. Wycliffe Ogallo was arrested.

There were unconfirmed reports that the ATPU officers arrested outgoing prisons boss Wycliffe Ogallo, Kamiti head Charles Mutembei and his deputy before being matched to the DCI offices.

The National Police Service Kenya while dismissing the arrest claims stated that Mr. Wycliffe Ogallo had not been arrested and that the police took him to only facilitate smooth handover of power.

“The reporting appearing in mainstream and social media that the former Kenya Prisons Service’s Commissioner General Mr. Wycliffe Ogallo has been arrested by police is not accurate as stated. This is to clarify that police only facilitated a smooth and seamless handover of office.” Wrote the National Police Service in a tweet.

Wycliffe Ogallo and Kamiti head Charles Mutembei were fired on Wednesday just a day after three terrorist suspects escaped from the tightly manned Kamiti Maximum Prison.
