Details Of How Missing Ugandan MP Secretly ‘Sneaked’ Out Of The Country Before Heading To Kampala

Date:

On Tuesday, October 11, the media was awash with reports of a missing Ugandan MP. The MP, identified as David Wandendeya Wakikona, arrived in the country with a number of his colleagues On October 3, 2022.

A missing person report was even filed at the Kilimani Police Station, prompting DCI detectives to track his whereabouts.

Hours later it emerged that the MP was found safe in Uganda. Wakikona also confirmed the same.

“I am here [in Kampala], you come to Parliament you will see me,” he said without giving details of how he got to Uganda.

Details have however emerged indicating how the lawmaker was able to ‘sneak’ to Uganda, leaving his colleagues, including the Ugandan Parliament’s clerk Opio Emmanuel worried about his whereabouts.

The MP left the Nairobi apartment, where he was residing with his colleagues, without informing any of them on October 9.

He then asked a guard to get him a taxi that dropped him off at Tom Mboya street. He proceeded to Latema street and booked a MoloLine shuttle to Nakuru.

According to detectives, Wakikona arrived in Nakuru and boarded another vehicle. Since a missing person report had been filed, the police were able to track him and established that he was in Eldoret at 2 pm on the same day. He proceeded with his journey to Bungoma before going to Kampala.

The police could not catch up with him as he had already crossed the border.

Kilimani Sub-county police commander Andrew Muturi also confirmed that the lawmaker was back in his home country.

“A missing person report was filed at Kilimani police station and the DCI took over the investigations. The MP has already returned to Uganda,” he told reporters.
