Sex Offenses Cases Overwhelm Courts

The Kenyan Judiciary has witnessed a sharp increase in sex offenses, the majority being the offense of defiling Under Age Girls.

Chief Justice David Maraga recently said that serious action should be taken to stop the sharp increase in sex offenses.

In Bungoma High Court has some of the highest cases of defilement reported.

Wafula Simiyu was on Friday arraigned in the Bungoma High Court for defiling an underage girl aged 17. It is claimed that he invited her to his house in Kanduyi and stayed with her for 5 days before being arrested.

In Nyamira, a middle-aged man stunned the public in Nyamira county after marrying the younger sister of his wife. According to the father-in-law Mr.Gilbert Keriga his daughter 17, went to visit her sister at Getare village but she never returned.

He made a phone call to the daughter’s home and instructed the younger one to return. After two weeks, the mother became impatient and made a follow up to their son-in-law and found her younger daughter had married him.

“My sister told me that the inlaw will take good care of both of us and I decided to stay here,’ Said the innocent girl. After the man sensed disagreement from his parents’ inlaw, he escaped from his home with his newly married wife and hid at Kericho tea. estates.

Keroka policemen followed and arrested him at Kericho town in Kericho county and brought him back to be judged in the court of law. Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the arrest and said the man will be aligned in court tomorrow after the investigation is over.
