“You Don’t Just Criticize For The Sake Of Criticizing” Raila Explains Why Opposition Is In Government

Date:

ODM leader Raila Odinga has addressed claims that his party was unable to handle the opposition and that is why they joined the government.

Raila who was speaking at the ODM’s National Governance Convention  on Friday explained that the work of the opposition is not always about criticizing the government.

According to him, Kenya is not the only country that has had the opposition working hand in hand with the government.

“You have seen some allegations that there is opposition in government and government in opposition, nothing could be further from the truth. What our members of parliament have done is done all over the world.

“In the UK it is called her majesty’s loyal opposition meaning that the opposition is there to call the government to check but you just don’t criticize for the sake of criticizing, you criticize constructively by offering solutions to the problems and this is what our members of parliament have been doing,” Raila told his party members.

He commended the members of his party in parliament for the great work they have been doing.

“They have continued to point out things which are not right at the same time supporting things that are right and also making proposals about how things should be done. Therefore I feel very proud with the performance of  our members of parliament,” he said

Raila began working with President Uhuru Kenyatta after uniting through the handshake on March 9, 2018.

The union between the opposition and the government pushed DP William Ruto away from the Jubilee government .

Ruto went ahead and formed his own movement dubbed Hustler movement under the United Democratic Alliance that  is currently  working with ANC and Ford Kenya.

Throughout the campaigns, the team has been claiming that the ODM  could not manage opposition and therefore they can not run the government as well.
