Why Governor Amason Kingi Could No Longer Stand Being In Azimio-OKA

Date:

Kilifi governor Amason Kingi was officially welcomed to Kenya Kwanza coalition on Tuesday May 10 after ditching Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

His move came after that of Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, who also joined Kenya Kwanza, thus boosting DP William Ruto’s support ahead of the August 9 general elections.

Kingi’s party had no intentions of fielding a presidential candidate for the coming general elections and that is why the party had resolved to support Raila Odinga’s presidential candidature hoping that the land issues, coastal region’s  economy and inclusivity in mainstream public service of the coastal people, would be addressed.

“Pamoja African Alliance had to look for  suitable partnership that was willing to specifically commit to address these three main issues affecting the coastal population. Initially, Pamoja African Alliance had hoped to join the Azimio political configuration, unfortunately and regrettably, PAA had to opt out midway of Azimio for three fundamental reasons,” Kingi said in a press briefing after the official welcome to Kenya Kwanza.

The reasons why his party decided to quit  Azimio are;

The legal process for PAA to be legally in Azimio could not be completed as it was frustrated by the flat refusal of Azimio to make available a copy of the Azimio agreement which would have enabled PAA to table the same before our NEC for ratification  as demanded by the party constitution.

Secondly, he said that the dealings in Azimio are shrouded in disturbing deep secrecy and mistrust, adding that consultations and decisions are made by a few and forced down the throats of the majority of the constituent parties.

Finally, Kingi said that the mentioned reasons made it difficult for PAA to pursue the three agenda that it had for the coastal people while in Azimio.
