A chaotic scene was witnessed at the Kisumu County Assembly on Tuesday during the swearing in of MCAs.
This is after the county clerk Owen Ojuok informed the house that he had received a court order barring the swearing in of a number of nominated MCAs.
The affected MCAs included Kennedy Ajwang, Lawino Opar, John Obaso and Regina Kizito.
Agitated MCAs led by South West MCA Gard Olima and Kano Wawidhi ward Moses Ochele vehemently protested the move while questioning the procedure that the clerk was using to introduce a communication in the middle of the swearing in.
“No! Which procedure is that? If you are not sure what you are doing… follow the order of the house,” an MCA said as the clerk proceeded to read the court order.
“Mr Clerk, there is no way you can introduce a communication in the middle of swearing in,” another said.
The security officers however were on standby to ensure that the matter did not escalate. Due to the pressure, the clerk was forced to swear in all the MCA before they could proceed to the election of speaker.
According to reports from a local Website, the four were targeted because they failed to attend a Monday dinner meeting that had been called by ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
The four are said to have been in Nakuru to support the candidature of Samuel Ongou for the speaker position. Onguo served as the majority leader during the first county Assembly. On other hand, ODM has fronted former Speaker Elisha Oraro for the position. The position attracted four candidates.
