“Shame!” Reactions As MCA Struggles To Read Oath During Swearing In(Video)

A video of an MCA struggling to read the oath during the swearing in has elicited reactions among Kenyans.

The MCA  from Turkana county had trouble with the part where she is required to say that she will protect the country’s constitution. The clerk however made sure that she said the part correctly after several unsuccessful attempts. The oath was being taken in Swahili.

A number of Kenyans have condemned leaders from Turkana county for denying youthful leaders chance to take up such positions.

“Shame on you Turkana leaders. You denied qualified Youths opportunity to legislate and represent the interest of Turkanas. This was your best choice. Really? Really?” a netizen said.

“In Africa during the swearing-in ceremony, we come across one or two new crops of leadership which cant read an English word and to make the matter worse, even a Swahili word. This is Turkana County. I still wonder how she made her way to the chamber,” another netizen said. The MCA however managed to say the full oath.

Meanwhile, the majority of county assemblies concluded the swearing in of MCAs  and most have already settled down on their speakers and deputy speakers as well.

The swearing in exercise in Kisumu county assembly was however briefly interrupted after MCAs exchanged in a shouting match with the county clerk.

Trouble began when the clerk informed the Assembly that he had received an order barring the swearing in.
