Uproar Over JKIA Leaking Roofs

Date:

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) became a talk of discussion after some travelers shared photos of the leaking roofs.

In the video shared by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, JKIA roofs were leaking in various parts leaving passengers stranded and frustrated.

Workers were seen trying to clear the leaking water but appeared overpowered by the intensity of the rain.

SonkoNews can also not authoritatively confirm when the video was recorded before being shared online.

The video sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans arguing that it was a national shame bearing in mind that JKIA was among the busiest airports in the region.

Cherargei leading the faction, called for Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to be held accountable for the leakage.

He accused the transport CS for failing to deliver on his duty thus shaming the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“CS Murkomen came all the way to Nandi County two weeks ago and called me a fool I thought he had finished all the works in Ministry of Roads & infrastructure! While he was busy insulting me there was NO standby Generators at Jomo kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the airport terminal roofs are leaking massively.

JKIA is a steeplechase arena! Look at the video below of the massive leaking of JKIA Terminal roofs,” Cherargei wrote.

Shocking footage from JKIA: Heavy rain leaking through the airport’s roof. This is not just a maintenance issue, it’s a safety risk and a dent in our national image. We need immediate action and accountability for our infrastructure,” George Njoroge, former Azimio la Umoja ICT expert wrote.

By the time of this publication, Murkomen had not responded to concerns from Kenyans.

This came a day after JKIA was plunged into darkness due to a nationwide power outage. The International Airport did not instant backup generator despite Murkomen’s promise.

However, the Kenya Aviation Authority stated that power was restored after 20 minutes and vowed to fix the generator in the next 30 days.
