Treasury Lists 11 Firms Set for Privatization

The National Treasury has finally published the list of government entities set for Privatization.

In a notice dated November 27, the National Treasury revealed that some of the firms are wholly owned by government while others had some shareholders.

The privatization program according to President William Ruto’s administration is aimed at reviving the firms and making them more profitable.

Here is the list of firms set for Privatization 

1.Kenya Literature Bureau
2. Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC)
3. National Oil Corporation
4. Kenya Seed Company Ltd
5. Mwea Rice Mills
6. Western Kenya Rice Mills Ltd
7. Kenya Pipeline Co.
8. New Kenya Cooperative Creameries
9. Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd
10. Rivatex East Africa Ltd
11. Numerical Machining Complex

The privatization was among key strategies adopted by the Kenya Kwanza administration despite receiving opposition from a section of the political class.

Leaders from the western region opposed the plans to privatize sugar factories including Mumias Sugar.

Their efforts paid off with Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa announcing operations resumption starting December 1.

Plans to privatize Mombasa Port was also rejected by a section of leaders from the region.

However Ruto dismissed the claims announcing that the port would be revitalized through a concession process.
