Most Bizarre Court Ruling! South Sudanese Sheep Sentenced To Jail For Three Years

Date:

In an unusual turn of events, a sheep in South Sudan has been jailed for three years after it caused the death of a 45-year old woman.

According to media reports from the country, the sheep knocked the woman, who was identified as Adhieu Chaping, multiple times with its head, thus breaking her ribs.

The victim met her untimely death due to the injuries she sustained.

The sheep was allegedly arrested earlier this month in Rumbek East County and will now spend the three years at a military camp in Aduel county.

Lakes State police spokesperson Mabor Makuac said that the owner of the sheep, Duony Manyang Dhal, is innocent and the sheep has to pay for its mistake.

“Our role as police is to provide safety and separate fights. The ram was apprehended and currently under custody at a police station of Maleng Agok Payam. The owner is innocent and the ram is the one that perpetrated the crime so it deserves to be arrested. Later on, the case shall be forwarded to customary court where the case can be handled amicably,” the police spokesperson said.

The owner of the sheep will however be required to pay a ‘blood compensation’ to the family of the deceased. The court directed that he gives the grieving family five cows.

The sheep will also be handed to the family when its jail term comes to an end.
