Man Killed By Clan Over Claims of Sexually Abusing A Goat

Date:

A 19-year old Ugandan man was beaten to death by his clan members for allegedly having sex with a goat.

Geoffrey Otema from Nyap Village Loro Sub-county, Uganda is said to have engaged in the unnatural act with the goat and later strangled it on Thursday night last week.

At first, the suspected was arrested and taken to the local administration where the matter was being handled but the members of the Atek Odutugole clan took him so as to discipline him.

The clan members beat him up to a coma and made him sit on the sun until 4 pm, when he died.

A close family member said that the deceased confessed to have sexually abused the goat but pleaded for forgiveness.

At around 2pm, he requested to be given some food but no one listened to him.

“He was arrested early in the morning and made to sit in the sun up to 4pm, when he died. He asked for food and water at around 2pm, but no one listened to him,” he said on Saturday.

According to a local administrator, the clan took up the matter and claimed that they were going to teach their own child.

“The village court had already fined him four goats and his mother accepted to pay, but when his clan leaders came, they took him away from us and I only received the information in the evening that Otema had died. I then called the police from Loro, and they came and recorded statements from us,” he said.

The police have now taken up the matter and have since arrested the Atek Odutugole clan chief in charge of Arwot Nyap Village.

Loro Sub-county chairman Nickson Okun condemned the act and urged clans to refrain from violence while trying to settle matters.

“We are now in a civilised world where clans should desist from the ancient methods of beating up a suspect that they are disciplining. This will land them into problems,” he said in an interview on Sunday.
