Little Known Details Of UDA Politician Who Won Elective Seat Only By Serving Villagemates Breakfast Daily

Date:

A former MP in Kilifi County has left Kenyans in utter disbelief after being voted in as a Member of County Assembly without holding a single campaign rally.

Peter Safari Shehe lost his Ganze MP in 2017 to ODM’s Teddy Mwambire. He was elected MP in 2013 under the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK). In 2017, he had sought to defend his seat on a Jubilee ticket.

The 2017 loss saw him relocate with his family to Switzerland along with his family. Shehe only returned to Kenya four months before the August 9 general election was held in a bid to secure the Jaribuni MCA seat.

According to him, he decided to go for a lesser seat to lay a solid foundation for his future political ambitions.

In the recent general election, the former MP vied on a UDA ticket and he was declared the winner by IEBC after garnering  3,121 votes.

The MCA elect is said to have treated his electorates to breakfast every morning at his home throughout the whole campaign period. He would also meet with different leaders to seek advice and share with them his manifesto.

His opponents who have been holding serious campaigns said that he was voted for because he is generally loved by the electorates.

Shehe is however facing graft allegations and the matter is still in court. EACC accused him of looting up to Kshs40 million from the Constituency Development Fund, between July 1, 2013 and June 20, 2014.

The politician was born in 1955 in Ganze, Kilifi. He is of the Kauma Community of Mijikenda but he is half Kenyan and half Swiss.

He studied in Kenya before proceeding for his higher education studies in Migros Klubschule, Switzerland where he pursued a course in Commercial Business and completed in1996.

The politician has two wives, a Kenyan and a Swiss. The Kenyan one is the eldest and they are believed to be having four children together.

He began his political career in 2013.
