Kakamega MP Accused Of Destroying Property Gave Police A Rough Time Before He Was Eventually Arrested

Date:

There was drama during the arrest of a Kakamega Member of Parliament (MP) accused of destroying property on Thursday, December 2.

Justus Kizito was arrested by detectives in the afternoon hours for destroying property at Ileo area in Kakamega county and was forced to spend the night in custody.

The MP is accused of destroying two semi permanent houses and a wooden fence and other property worth Kshs250, 000.

Detectives are still looking for other people who were in the company of the MP when the incident occurred.

His arrest was however not easy as he engaged the police in running battles before he was finally cuffed.

Kizito was in the company of youths who attempted to  block the police from arresting him and some officers were injured in the process.

“The MP caused drama, and some of our officers were hurt in the process. We managed to arrest at least two people, including his driver,” the Kakamega County Criminal Investigations Officer James Lelia said.

According to Lelia,  Kizito failed to appear in court two months ago to answer to charges of malicious damage to property.

“The warrant of arrest was issued two months ago, and the police have been looking for the MP. He will be arraigned tomorrow (Friday) to answer the charges since the other eight accused persons have already been charged,” said Lelia.

The property in question belonged to the Mudeku family and stood at Vikutsa village in Kakamega East. The MP is said to have led a group of people to destroy the property on February 2.

“He is accused of destroying houses, crops and a gate alongside the eight others,” Lelia further said.

Mudeku family is in a dispute with  a school over a piece of land. The family was granted ownership of the land in December by the Kakamega Court but their attempts to take over it have proved futile..

“In January, we lost property worth Sh680,000 to vandalism. Our crops were uprooted and houses destroyed. My brother and I were assaulted by the community when we formally laid claim to the parcel,” one of the family members said.
