Elachi Prepares Kananu For Difficult Times As County Chief Ahead Of Her Swearing In

Date:

Former Nairobi County speaker Beatrice Elachi has advised Anne Kananu as she prepares to be sworn in as the next governor

Elachi has asked Kananu to brace herself for monumental challenges as soon as she is sworn in.

Speaking in an interview with a local TV station on Tuesday, the Chief Administrative Secretary for Gender and Public service said that the city hall is under cartels that have made it difficult for elected as well as appointed leaders to effectively carry out their duties and responsibilities.

“My dear sister, all I can tell you is, ask God for wisdom, ask God to help you,” Elachi said.

According to her, the cartels will want the governor to work with them at county level especially during procurement of goods and services.

“If you have a good team, you can collect revenue of Ksh50 billion to Ksh80 billion from the 85 wards in just one year, but then, you will need to embrace your team and work closely with them as your offices have already been captured by cartels,” she noted.

She however asked Kananu to focus on the voice of the people of Nairobi county and put their interests at heart.

Recounting her era as the city hall speaker, Elachi said that she was always at loggerheads with former governor Mike Sonko due to their different thoughts and priorities.

She further advised Kananu to work closely with her juniors to ensure a smooth running of the City Hall  even as the next general elections approach.

Kananu is set to be sworn as city governor following the Supreme Court’s ruling on a petition by Mike Sonko.

Sonko filed the petition to block Kananu’s swearing in but the Supreme court on Monday struck out the application thus paving way for Kananu’s swearing in.
