Sonko Humbled, Turns To God After Supreme Court Okays Kananu’s Swearing In

Date:

Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has finally been humbled following a supreme court verdict that allowed the swearing in of Ann Kananu as the official Nairobi governor.

As a result, the former Nairobi boss not only conceded the verdict which placed the last nail on his political life but also turned to God, arguing that he would wait for his timing.

“Fellow Kenyans, I concede defeat by accepting the Supreme court’s decision this afternoon. God’s timing is the best and a time will come when he’ll give me another chance to serve Kenyans in any capacity.” He wrote.

“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity I had working for you, I will continue doing so. For now we leave everything to God. We live to fight another day, however, aluta continua as life must go on. TWENDENI TUKAPIGE SHEREHE SASA.” He added.

The Supreme Court on Monday struck out an application by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko challenging the swearing-in of Anne Kananu as the next county chief.

Supreme Court judge Mohammed Ibrahim had on 25th October directed the Assumption of Office of the county and the committee spearheading the process to pause the swearing in of Ann Kananu to allow Sonko time to argue his case.

The supreme court while throwing out the interim order which elapsed today argued that it lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the former governor’s application.

“We lack jurisdiction to entertain the application. Objections by the clerk, Nairobi county assembly, and county assembly sustained. Motion dated October 23  is incompetent and hereby struck out,” the court said.

According to the Star, Sonko moved to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal rejected his application to stop Kananu’s swearing-in.

Appeal Court judges Wanjiru Karanja, Jamila Mohamed and Jessie Lessit dismissed his application on grounds that the issue of swearing-in Kananu was not raised in the High Court matter and the judgement delivered by that same court did not address or determine that issue.

“The issue of swearing in Kananu was not a ground of appeal in Sonko’s draft. In that draft appeal, Sonko challenges the decision of the High Court which refused to overturn the impeachment process,” they claimed.
