Drunkards Arrested In Murang’a Town In A Night Raid For Flouting Covid-19 Rules

Several drunkards have been arrested in Murang’a town a few minutes ago for flouting Covid-19 rules by engaging in drinking spree.

Police officers stormed various bars in Murang’a town and arrested a number of people who were engaging in open drinking without observing the laid down Covid-19 preventive measures.

The raid come in the wake of government imposing strict measures in a bid to deal with surging cases of Coronavirus. President Uhuru Kenyatta had on Wednesday announced that all political rallies and gatherings would be suspended for 60 days. The head of state however clarified that anyone wishing to hold such must observe all the COVID laid down protocols.

With regards to the 10 pm curfew, all restaurants and bars are to be closed by 9pm. The government plans to impose even more serious and strict measures if the numbers continue to rise. In a statement released today, those found breaking these containment measures will be fined 20,000 Kenya shillings on the spot as opposed to being jailed.

The decision not to jail them was informed by the spirit of avoiding public gatherings to avoid the spread of the virus.

The drunkards were bundled into a police Landcruiser and driven away to Murang’a police station.
