While filing for her divorce case from former Minneapolis police officer Dereck Chauvin, Kellie Chauvin requested not only to change her last name but also the titles of their homes.
The former Miss Minneapolis separated from her husband on May 28, just a day before Dereck was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for the death of African American man – George Floyd.
According to CNN, the filing stated an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” that was beyond saving. Dereck and Kellie have been married since June 2010.

In her filing, Kellie said she wanted to change her last name, plus other requests. She, however, never indicated which surname she would take once the divorce has been finalized but according to the petition, she was formerly known as Kellie Thao and Kellie Xiong.
From the report established by SonkoNews, Mrs. Chauvin also requested the court to grant her full rights and titles to the couple’s properties in Windermere, Oakdale, and Minnesota. According to CNN, she asked for an equitable division of the couple’s vehicles and bank accounts, and she won’t need spousal support.
From her profile, Killie said she met Dereck Chauvin at a medical center where she worked when the former police officer brought a suspect in for health check.
Killies is yet to make a public statement since she filled for her divorce from the former police officer, but her lawyers said on Friday that she was devastated by George Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy is with his family, his loved ones and all those who are grieving his death.
