DanceHall Star Beenie Man Explains Why Police ‘Chased’ Him Out Of Stage In The Middle of Performance

Date:

Popular Jamaican dancehall Beenie Man artist was forced to cut short his performance after police were sent to ‘drag’ him out of the stage

The incident occurred on Saturday May 21, while he was performing at an event in his home country.

According a video that surfaced on social media, Beenie Man is heard arguing with the police while questioning them how he can just walk out on the people whom he was entertaining.

After a few moments of the confrontation, Beenie leaves with the officers who were keen on not buying his explanation or protests.

The standoff was witnessed because of the poor communication between the promoter of the event and performers.

Apparently, the event had a limited time as per the permit but the promoter did not inform Beenie Man and his band on time.

Both parties had struck a deal that would have seen Beenie Man and his team perform for 30 minutes. The time allocated to them by the event manager was 45 minutes which was not a big deal.

His band had also been requested to back up other artists such as Sizzla but they were not paid even after requesting for half of the required amount as their main performance with Beenie was upcoming. Their time for hitting the stage came yet their first act did not take place prompting them to make an inquiry over the delays.

When Beenie Man went to the stage, after about 15-20 minutes of performing he was informed that he was only required to perform for five minutes and seconds later the police showed up to stop him from performing.

“No explanation, No disclosure of time constraints, no  explanation of permit problems  or prior request to cut the show short. The promoter had enough time to discuss this with my management and the band members  but he waited until we were in the middle of the set to send police on stage to cut the show short,” he lamented while calling out on the promoter of the event over being unprofessional .

He however called upon the country’s promoters to be professional in handling events and concerts  and treat the same with respect.

“I have been doing this for many years. I have worked with many promoters who  were short of time due to permits and I have often cut short my shows to accommodate other performers. Promoters all over the world can tell you that Beenie Man is on of the easies artist to do business with,” the artist said while denying claims of being in a dispute with Sizzla.
