60-year-old Elizabeth Mumbua, a Chama treasure has taken her life.
She passed away shortly after being admitted to Kangundo Sub-County Hospital after ingesting poison.
There was excess pressure on the local table banking organization’s treasurer to hand over Ksh 300,000 that group members had raised over the course of the year.
She died on Monday while receiving medical attention at a hospital in Machakos after ingesting poison and had left her homestead three days earlier.
The group balanced its books of accounts on Tuesday of last week, at which point trouble began. It is believed that the small-scale farmer stole the funds.
The mother of two left her home, according to Matetani Chief Mary Njeri, three days before she ingested poison.
After ingesting poison, she was struggling for her life in the hospital. Mr. Zacharia Bitok, the commander of the Kangundo Sub-county Police, informed the media over the phone that they had lost her.
He further declared that an investigation into the matter had begun.
She had taken a lot of poison, according to a doctor who was on the team that treated the mother of two.
The body was moved to the mortuary at Kangundo Sub-County Hospital to await post-mortem. Members of the table banking group were left reeling after the death.
Merry-go-rounds, often referred to as malolondo, are common table banking facilities for women in the region.
