Case Closed! CS Magoha’s Take On Relocation Of Kisumu Boys, Other Schools In Kisumu’s CBD

Date:

Over the week, there has been a heated debate on social media about relocation of Kisumu Boys as well as other schools in Kisumu’s CBD.

The debate was sparked by Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who said that plans were under way to relocate the institutions as they brought no economic value to the lakeside city, despite sitting on a prime pieces of land

“Considering the value of the place, that land needs to be useful. We need to construct an integrated urban Centre rather than schools. Why don’t we take them to an area where schools share amenities? We don’t need to have a field for each school in a town. Five schools can have one field because they don’t use it all the time. Students from school A can use it in the morning and the afternoon; school B brings its students,” Nyong’o said.

Some netizens agreed with Nyong’o whereas others objected to the plan with some saying that it was another plan to grab public land.

Education CS George Magoha, who visited Kisumu girls on Saturday, has however warned against relocating the learning institutions and called upon the governor to stop scaring the students.

He added that the institutions were safe wherever they were and any plans to relocate them should be done after public participation.

“As we are now, every Kenyan school is safe as you can imagine where it is. If there is an issue and it comes to the ministry we shall take it to public participation. For example, if you want to relocate a school anywhere else, you must ask the people there. Our government is not a dictatorial one,” the CS said.
