Body Of A Woman Who Died Two Years Ago Discovered Sitting Inside Her House

Date:

An Italian woman was discovered dead sitting at a table in her house two years after her death in Prestino near Lake Como in northern Italy.

The 70-year old identified as Marinella Beretta had not been seen around the area for about two years and locals assumed that she had moved to a different place after Covid-19 struck the country.

The elderly woman lived on her own and investigations are underway to establish whether she has any surviving relatives as no one had come forward to claim her.

Her body was discovered by the Como fire brigade that had visited her home to clear a tree that had fallen in her garden after neighbors had raised a concern.

A medical examination on the woman’s body indicated that she passed on around the end of 2019 based on the extent of her body’s decomposition.

The authorities are yet to establish the cause of Beretta’s death. Her body is however said to have been mummified.

Como City Hall press officer Francesca Manfredi said that the date of Beretta’s funeral will be set in due course. Meanwhile, her body is preserved at the morgue.

Como Mayor Mario Landriscina invited locals to attend the woman’s funeral that will be funded by the government.

“I will try to be there and I invite the city to be present. This is the moment to be together, and even if this woman had no relatives, we could become her relatives,” the mayor said.
