Miguna Miguna’s Journey To The Country Continues To Face Obstacles Despite Court’s Ruling

Date:

Exiled Lawyer and activist Miguna Miguna’s journey back to Kenya is going to take a bit longer than expected.

Despite the court’s ruling that the controversial lawyer be allowed to the country, Miguna said that the Kenyan embassy in Berlin declined to issue him with the emergency travel papers.

In a series of tweets, the lawyer said that he arrived at the embassy at 1.50pm on Monday and moments later, the Kenyan ambassador to Germany hurriedly left the embassy.

Those who welcomed him at the embassy told him that they risk losing their jobs if they provided him with the travel papers.

“Arrived at the Kenyan Embassy, Berlin at 1:50 PM. Amb. Tom Amolo hurriedly left at 2 PM. Ushered to the Boardroom by Emma Mabinda, Karuma and Esther Mungai and told that if they comply with Justice Ong’udi’s Order and issue me with a Travel Document, they would lose their jobs,” Miguna tweeted.

Miguna said that he was asked to provide the court order by Justice Hedwig Ong’undi which they termed as rumors.

“I asked her to show me the “Certificate for Losing Citizenship,” but she stated that she did not have the same. Mr. Karuma then said that “the court Order you are speaking about is rumours and maybe has been appealed.” Impunity all over the place,” the lawyer said.

“I explained to Alexander Karuma that an appeal would not stay the order: that whoever did not want to comply must obtain a stay order from the Court of Appeal. He then turned around and claimed that I had gone to the Embassy “too fast.” He was rude and hostile throughout,” he added.

He went on to share videos of the meeting between him and the officials at the embassy. He vowed to continue with the struggle until he is finally allowed to Kenya.

On Monday, Justice Ong’undi directed the government to allow Miguna to travel to Kenya using his identity card.

The judge also told him to obtain the emergency travel papers from the Kenyan embassy in Berlin within a period of 72 hours .
