Miguna Overjoyed As Court Issues Directives On His Journey To Kenya

Date:

Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna can breathe a sigh of relief after the High Court ordered the government to allow him back in the country.

In a ruling delivered by Justice Hedwig Ong’undi, the court directed that Miguna be issued with an emergency travel document by the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin, Germany.

Justice Ong’undi further ordered Air France to allow Miguna board a flight to Kenya upon presenting the travel document.

Miguna is required to obtain the document within a period of 72 hour.

The judge ordered the government to allow the controversial lawyer to the country by using his Identity Card. The lawyer will apply for a new passport that should be issued within 7 days after landing in the country according to the ruling by the court.

“Upon landing, he be allowed to use his ID for purposes of identification,” said the judge.

Miguna, through his lawyers moved to court seeking the red alerts that the government had imposed against him be lifted.

Miguna has been stuck in German since his attempt to return to the country in November 16 failed.

Last week, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho said that the government had not issued red alerts to block the lawyer from coming to Kenya.

“I confirm that no government agency has issued any so-called red alert to Air France and Lufthansa Group (operating as German Airlines) in relation to Miguna’s travel to Kenya,” Kibicho stated.

He asked him to obtain his travel papers from the Kenya High Commission at Ottawa in Canada adding that he will not be allowed in the country just by using his Identity Card.

Responding to the court’s ruling, Miguna said that he would be heading to the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin to get the travel papers while that thanking his legal team for the exemplary performance.

“Congratulations, SC Dr. Khaminwa, @NelsonHavi, @AngawaEA, Valentine Khaminwa and @kadirosman06 for demonstrating once more that those who flagrantly disobey court orders are agents of doom. I’ll be at the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin in the next 2 hours. The struggle continues,” Miguna wrote on twitter.
