Buruburu Girls Fire: Two Students Are Suspected To Be Involved With The Incident

Two students of Buruburu Girls’ Secondary school will be charged over the fire incident that occurred at the school last week.

The incident led to the hospitalization of 59 students  who were forced to jump from the storey dormitory building after being trapped inside the building when the fire began.

The two students have been accused of planning and burning one of the cubicles on October 31, 2021 before escaping from the building leaving their fellow students for dead.

Sources close to the detectives carrying out investigations into the matter said that the suspects were allegedly heard planning to burn one of the cubicles and were later seen leaving the scene as soon as the fire erupted.

Detectives are now expected to forward the file on the findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution who will advise the charges that the two students will face or direct officers to do a further investigation.

Education CS George Magoha has warned students responsible for burning their schools that they will face the law.

“That information is going to be on the record of your life and the law does not allow even if you are 10 years to buy petrol and burn a property, if you want go and burn your mother’s building

This comes as form three and four students will be reporting to the school on Monday as the rest report on Tuesday.

According to Citizen TV, parents have however complained against the school administration’s directive requiring them to pay Kshs1,500 to cater for the destruction caused by the fire.

“My question is how can we pay for damages when the investigation is still happening? Also, who has checked and analyzed that the maintenance will cost 1500? This should not affect everyone,” a parent said.

Another parent said, “But it is so unfair, how did they arrive at that figure with regards to a small fire from one cubicle? And the investigation is still going on, who analyzed that the damages or maintenance will cost 1500?”
