Fati Sime and her son Adamu Sabi Sime have been arrested by police for engaging in an incestuous relationship that had lasted for years and saw them sire three children together.
What’s even puzzling is that Fati was also sleeping with her other son who managed to escape when police raided their home and arrested the duo.
Adamu and his mother were arrested by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on September 9th.
“On Thursday, September 09, 2021, one Malam Bandele, the district head of Moshe Community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara state, reported the incestuous act committed by one Adamu Sabi Sime and his mother, Fati Sime of the same community.
“Men from the intelligence unit and NSCDC operatives in Kaiama swung into action and the outcome of investigations established the fact that the mother (Fati) has three children for her biological son. The younger brother of the suspect, who was also confirmed to be sleeping with the mother, is now at large,” read police statement in part.
Nigerian police also established that the woman and her two sons are illegal immigrants who came from the Republic of Benin.
Adamu and his mother were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for background checks and further action.
Police meanwhile launched a manhunt for Adamu’s young brother who escape. It’s not clear whether the incestuous family will be deported to Benin or prosecuted in Nigeria for engaging in blood relations.
Apart from just being a taboo, incest is also a crime in Nigeria by virtue of Marriage Act which forbids sexual relations and marriage among people who are related by blood.
Nigeria’s constitution describes incest as a sexual act that is against the law of nature and prescribes a minimum term of 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine to offenders.
