SDA Church On Ruto’s Neck Over Unpaid 10 Million Donation Promise

Date:

Reports emerged on Wednesday, October 7, claiming that Vice President William Ruto had yet to fully settle a Ksh 10 million donation he had pledged to a church in Kisii.

The Etangi Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) reportedly wrote to the president of the Eastern Kenya Union Conference, Pastor Samuel Makori, asking for clarification on the gift of Ksh.10M.

It is alleged that Ruto donated Ksh 10 million to the church, but only paid Ksh 2 million and promised to settle the balance of Ksh 8 million at a later date.

Speaking to a local publication, Etangi SDA’s Elder Ongechi denied allegations that Ruto had never attended a fundraiser at the church.

“Ruto never donated to our church, and if he had ever visited the church, I would have had information about the event.

“Our church members give contributions, but we have never been in contact with Ruto about a donation,” he said.

Ruto’s deputy communications director Emmanuel Talam also denied that Ruto attended the fundraiser and made such a donation.

Talam added that the church could have written to Ruto directly if the claims were indeed true.

The letter purportedly written by the Etangi church revealed that the donation was made in March 2019.

“On Saturday March 30, 2019, a fundraiser was conducted to support the completion of the headquarters of the Southern Kenya Conference (SKC) in Nyanchwa, which was chaired by the Honorable Dr. William Ruto, Vice President of the Republic from Kenya.

“During this ceremony, Dr Ruto donated Ksh 10 million as the main guest, but of this amount, the cash was only Ksh 2 million.
