DCI has warned criminals who resort to getting witchdoctor services in an attempt to escape the long arm of the law, noting that the steps will not hinder detectives from undertaking their duties and responsibilities.
This is after a team of detectives pounced on a suspected thief in the home of a renowned witchdoctor in Gachie, Kiambu county where she had gone to seek protection from DCI at a cost of Kshs5000.
The suspect, identified as Miriam Mwelu, is believed to have stolen Kshs4 million from her employer and was busted in company of her partner Timothy Akoi.
“The detectives arrived in time as the suspect was being immersed in a basin containing a concoction of blood drawn from a dead fowl, whose features resembled those of a cockerel,” a report by DCI revealed.
Upon the arrival of detectives, the elderly witchdoctor is said to have begun pronouncing endless incantations in an attempt to keep them at bay, but that did not deter the sleuths from executing their mission.
On the other hand, Mwelu had closed her eyes hoping that the sleuths would disappear.
“She couldn’t come to terms with reality, after the detective in-charge of the operation told her ‘mama bado tuko hapa vaa nguo twende.’Â
“A set of paraphernalia forming part of the witch doctor’s tools of trade including horns, feathers and cowrie shells were recovered. Among the services offered by the witchdoctor as detailed on a long list seen by the detectives was ‘Kutoshikwa na DCI’ attracting a fee of Sh5,000,” DCI added.
Later on, Mwelu took the detectives to her parents home in Ithanga, Murang’a county, where Sh1.57million was recovered. Also recovered was the jewelry stolen from the woman’s employer.
“Detectives rely on actionable intelligence supported forensically through science that cannot be challenged by the dark powers of a witch doctor,” DCI said.
