After disruption in the education sector occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic, Sossion now urges the government to focus on flattening the Covid-19 infection curve first before shifting its gears to the national examinations.
While addressing the press at the Kenya Human Rights Commission offices in Lavington, Sossion stated that the lives of both teachers and leaders should be prioritized in the decision-making regarding education. The KNUT boss added that resumption of schools must be a negotiable effort and should not be a subject of dictatorship.
“It is better we have our children stay at home, safe and alive, and repeat a class than sending them to school to die. The world won’t come to an end when certain matters are suspended.

Both KCPE and KCSE are not authentic. They can be pushed to a later date when the syllabus shall have been covered and the COVID-19 curve shall have been flattened,” said Sossion
Sossion pointed out that the majority of the teachers in the country are above 50 years of age hence are at greater risk of contracting Covid-19 in case they are exposed to the disease.
KNUT boss suggested that the syllabus should resume once the schools are reopened. He stated that online learning ain’t sufficient since most learners don’t have access to e-learning services while those who can are unable to effectively interact with their teachers.
He cautioned the government against gambling with the lives of both students and teachers. He, however, urged the authorities to open social places to experiment if social distancing can be maintained by members of the public.
