Wilson Sossion Stoned While Campaigning In Bomet, Vehicle Vandalized

Date:

ODM nominated MP Wilson Sossion experienced the ugly side of politics while campaigning in Bomet county where he was stoned by supporters of his opponent.

Sossion – former secretary general at the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) – recently ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM for William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The firebrand trade unionist vowed to support Ruto in his presidential bid next year while announcing his exit from ODM early this month.

Sossion said he was fully behind Ruto’s bottom-up economic model which the DP has described as the only solution to challenges facing the country.

“In the world, the bottom-up economic agenda is pro-common man, an agenda of equality and prosperity for the common Mwananchi. Your excellency Deputy President I can tell you with the choice of this economic model, I count you as one of the brave leaders in Africa,” Sossion said, speaking publicly for the first time on his political vehicle for the 2022 election.

Sossion, who is vying for senate seat in Bomet county, on Friday October 22nd clashed with his viral the incumbent Bomet senator Christopher Langat.

After attending a fundraising event in Ndanai for Small Children’s Home, senator Langat and Sossion’s supporters on sharply differed. The two camps clashed in a road side rally few kilometres away from the fundraising venue.

Sossion’s convoy was stoned by supporters of senator Langat. The SUV’s window was broken after being pelted with stones.

To save the situation, Sossion’s driver sped off to save the ODM nominated MP from harm. His car hit a roadside vendor at Kaplong center, further causing commotion in the town which had it’s market day.

The woman who was knocked was rushed to Kaplong mission hospital with minor leg injuries. Traders condemned the incident saying it was unfortunate as it would have been fatal. They urged voters to be peaceful ahead if 2022 as politics of intolerance was long overdue.

“It’s sad that an innocent woman almost lost her life because of such acts. It was wrong to stone the MP, even if you don’t agree with him, just wait for election day. The driver should as well have been cautious,” Korir a trader said.

It’s believed that senator Langat’s camp was displeased with the sentiments Sossion made in the fundraiser against the current the incumbent.

He poked holes in Langat’s competence saying corruption was rife in the county government of Bomet and Langat was sleeping on his job.

“We shall restore the sanity back to our county, corruption is an everyday cup of tea in the county government and it’s sad that the current senator is not doing anything. When we take over in 2022, every one responsible will be held accountable. The role of the senate is to oversee the county and it does not look good here,” said Sossion.
