William Samoei Ruto’s elder brother Paul Ruto is not on good terms with his brother the DP since the death of their father Mzee Daniel Cheruiyot in 2008.
Despite his brother being in Government for over 35 years , Paul continues living in abject poverty like an orphan.
He says that just like all the other Kenyans, his hopes for a better future lies on the hands of Raila Odinga.
Paul insists that he won’t support his brother’s presidential quest as he won’t be safe on his hands,..” if as his brother am not safe from his many unchecked machinations, what about other Kenyans” .. wondered a bitter Paul.
He says that the disagreement with his brother William started when he attempted to sell their late father’s land, a move that six other brothers rejected resulting to a serious squabble that ended ugly.
Following the bitter disagreement, Paul who is the oldest in the family moved out of the land and relocated to Eldoret town and started doing menial work in the Juakali sector in the slums at the outskirts of the town.
During the interview with this writer, Paul who live in abject poverty produced his ID and his old photos as a testimony that he is indeed DP Ruto’s brother.
Their second born Edward Ruto died in 2016 after suffering from a rare cancer caused by poisoning. He lacked medical attention and funds as most hospitals were barred from treating by an unknown government official. Villagers claim the land wrangles in the family might have been the cause, many didn’t comment regarding the topic as they feared for their lives.
William Ruto further grabbed all the family lands and transfered the title deeds to his name.
Paul Ruto says that everyday is a blessing to him hopes that one day God will remember him and bring justice to his family.
It’s an expected norm that when one is in the position of influence, the family members should be the first individuals to benefit however, this is not the case for Paul Ruto who is a peasant farmer to avoid languishing in untold suffering.
