Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that the Monday night raid at his office by DCI detectives was politically instigated.
Wanjigi’s Kwacha Group of Companies offices in Westlands, Nairobi was raided when he was in a meeting with his political team with the detectives demanding to see him and not even his lawyers.
Speaking to Citizen digital, Wanjigi said that armed detectives wanted him to accompany them to their offices to write a statement.
“They got in, opened the gate and surrounded the compound. They were disguised from head to toe and were carrying assault rifles. They were telling two of my lawyers who had arrived that they want me to go to CID to write a statement. We don’t know a statement for what,” Wanjigi narrated.
He believes that he was being hunted for because of the remarks he made over that weekend accusing ODM leader Raila Odinga of dishonesty.
“I tend to believe that it has a lot to do with what I said over the weekend and maybe they have some information of the kind of campaign I intend to launch. But this weekend I was very clear about various personalities and it seems to be making some of my friends very uncomfortable,” Wanjigi said in a phone conversation with Citizen digital.
“They tried this in 2017 and they failed… It is the same sought of games where they are trying to intimidate me. Some people are uncomfortable with my politics or with the way I speak… I speak nothing but the truth and I don’t think there is anything wrong with speaking the truth,” he added.
Wanjigi however said that he was lucky that he could address the media after such an incident as many Kenyans have disappeared without a trace.
“I believe Kenyans have every right to know the truth and we shall continue to speak the truth. We are not going to be deterred by anyone or any interpretation. I am fortunate to be able to talk to you. Many Kenyans as you have covered in your papers they disappeared. Nobody knows where they are,” the 2022 presidential hopeful stated.
He urged his opposers to come out and speak on why they are so uncomfortable with his presidential candidature.
“Why are they so uncomfortable with my candidature? Why…? Let them just come out and say it. Uhuru Kenyatta just come out and say it. And to imagine that my friend Raila… Raila Amolo Odinga whom I was almost killed for, is sitting with him (Uhuru) somewhere probably enjoying this spectacle is the saddest thing of all,” said Wanjigi.
