Deputy President William Ruto Weston Hotel that is located along Langa’ta Road was set to be demolished on Wednesday.
According to the senior counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi the government had sent tractors and goons to demolish the hotel.
“As counsel on record for Weston Hotel, I can officially confirm that the Government of the Republic of Kenya 48 hours ago sent tractors and goons to demolish the Hotel. The operation was called off after the tractors reached the hotel and the powers that be changed their mind,” Ahmednassir stated on twitter.
Reports about the hotel’s demolition were first shared on twitter by Ruto’s close ally Oscar Sudi on Wednesday.
“The Deep State are indeed cornered. They have today decided to express their fury by attempting to demolish Weston Hotel,” the Kapseret member of Parliament wrote on twitter and accompanied the post with photos of bull dozers that had been sent on the mission.
Following numerous concerns, Weston Hotel issued a statement asking its clients to disregard the rumors.
“We would like to clarify and assure our esteemed guests and the general public that the hotel operations are smoothly running without any interruption. Any contrary information should be disregarded,” reads part of the statement.
“We would like to welcome our clients to continue supporting us and wish all of you a Happy Customer Service week. Please note that any official communication will come from our official channels ie on Social Media,” the statement further read.
On Thursday it was reported that the number of customers visiting the hotel had dropped following the controversies surrounding it.
Sources said that the hotel’s customer sort services from other hotel after fearing what might befall them at night.
It is alleged that DP Ruto lost millions between Wednesday and Thursday.
The hotel is claimed to be standing on public land that was grabbed from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
KCAA moved to court seeking to have the hotel demolished.
