“We Can’t Choose Presidential Candidate Through Voting” Wetangula Reveals How OKA Will Select Flagbearer

Date:

One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principal Moses Wetangula has revealed that the alliance will not choose its presidential candidate through voting.

The alliance which brings together Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula has been championing for one of their own to be on the ballot supported by the rest.

However, the four principals – expect Gideon Moi – are reluctant to back each other to vie for president as they all salivate after the country’s top seat.

OKA principals are faced with an impasse as they grapple to settle on one presidential candidate who will fly their flag in 2022 election.

Speaking on Sulwe FM on Wednesday morning October 3rd, Wetangula said that the principals have ruled out choosing their presidential candidate through voting.

“We cannot arrive at a presidential candidate through voting. You can vote and get a winner but there will be divisions. We shall agree on consensus and find the pilot for Oka,” said Wetangula.

He added that;

“The government is not about who the president is but who does what in government.”

The Bungoma governor further stated that the alliance was still open to work with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“If Raila sees the importance of joining us, he will be a first among equals but not that he will come and dictate what happens here. You never say never in politics. Who knew Raila and Uhuru [Kenyatta] would come together and call each other brother? Anything is possible,” he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been trying to get OKA to unite behind Raila and support his presidential bid.

OKA alliance lack popularity even as a united force, Raila Odinga and William Ruto are the clear presidential favorites in the 2022 race.

Uhuru has met OKA principals severally in a bid to strike a compromise with them arguing that if they back Raila they will for certain form the next government.
