We Are Not Taking Raila To AU To Retire Him From Politics- Wetang’ula

Date:

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has vowed to use his networks to ensure that Azimio leader Raila Odinga becomes the next chairman of the African Union Commission.

Speaking during the launch of an ICT hub at Mabanga Seminary in Bungoma county, Wetang’ula said that it is now the government’s responsibility to ensure that Raila’s dream is achieved.

“The government as well as the president of Kenya Dr. William Ruto have already said that Hon. Raila Odinga is our candidate. What we will all do, including me Papa Wa Roma, every African country I visit, I am familiar with the president,  the speaker as well and the Vice President, we are all going to put on our jogging shoes and go around Africa to campaign for Raila Amollo Odinga to be the next chair of the Africa union,” he said.

He further insisted that the government’s push for Raila to join African Union is not an aim to make him leave the country ahead of 2027 general elections.

“Let me make it clear, we are not taking Raila to be chair of African union because we want to exit her from Kenya we are taking him because he is capable for being the Chair of Africa Union,” he clarified

The former Bungoma senator further noted that Raila was pleased to serve in the capacity.

“He loves to do that work and we will help him to go and do the work,” Wetang’ula said.
