Most wanted fraudster, Abdiqafar Abdirashid Abey was arrested in Nairobi.
The National Police Service (NPS) announced that Mr. Abdiqafar Abdirashid Abey had been detained at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport as he tried to escape.
He is said to have defrauded the public of millions of shillings in a case that was reported to Nyanchwa Police Station in Kisii County. He is from Mandera County.
According to the police, the arrest had been made possible by a tip from citizens who saw him at the airport.
The accused allegedly stole a significant amount of money while conducting Sim-card fraud.
The suspect moved to Kisii in 2017 and worked in Mpesa outlets there.
This comes days after three suspects from Kisii were apprehended for stealing millions of Kenyans’ money.
Before the cybercriminals were finally arrested over the weekend, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) provided a step-by-step account of how they were able to defraud Kenyans.
The DCI referred to the group as well-known thugs and claimed that they “obtained money by operating bogus internet platforms professing to sell things from unwary members of the public.”
