Uproar Over Amb. Benjamin Lagat Move To Openly Violate Wild Conservation Policy

Date:

Kenyans in social media are furious after a photo emerged showing Kenya’s Ambassador to Namibia appearing to have killed a wild animal.

The photo that has been circulated widely on online media platforms show a smiling ambassador Langat holding a firearm placed on top of what looks like a Kudu while his other arm holding one of the animal’s huge horn.

Blood is also seen to have spattered on the ground which is believed to be in a vast savanna in Namibia.

The agitated Kenyans wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to dismiss Langat saying that he is against the country’s efforts to conserve wild animals.

Kenya outlawed hunting and poaching of wild animals. The practice however is legal in Namibia.

“Benjamin Langat from Kericho. A Kenyan ambassador to Namibia. Busy killing animals/wildlife in Namibia. Our policy internationally is against poaching and hunting of game. He is not fit to represent Kenya internationally,” a netizen complained.

Another tweeter user who goes by the name Shailja Patel expressed her disgust while saying that, “Kenya’s ambassador to Namibia, Benjamin Langat @HonLangat, acting out his colonial game-hunting fantasies. Killing wildlife has been illegal in Kenya since 1977. It’s legal in Namibia. But wealthy and powerful men shooting wild animals for sport is always disgusting.”

“This is not what we expect of our representatives abroad. Ambassador Benjamin Langat deserve to be recalled. Too sickening regardless of the Namibian laws. His duty is not to promote Namibia but Kenya,” stated Gordon K’ach

Karimi Karen wrote, “Even with the legal practice Namibia has on game hunting practice…for a Kenyan Ambassador Hon Benjamin Langat to participate… he violates his country policy and its commitment which Kenya leads in wildlife conservation and advocate for non Consumptive practices. SHAME ON YOU.”

This comes a day after president Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated the ministry of tourism together with life conservation agencies on their efforts to curb wildlife poaching.

The president noted a significant reduction in the loss of endangered species such as elephants and rhinos.

Langat served as Ainamoi MP from 2008 to 2017 when he lost the seat to his opponent Sylvanus Maritim.
