Tuskys supermarket cashiers in six of their major branches have tendered their resignation in style by paying themselves with the sales money.
The six branches include Greenspan, Ongata Rongai, T-Mall, Matasia, Eldoret and Kenyatta Avenue. The decision to pay themselves with daily sales come amidst financial difficulties that has faced them.
Tuskys supermarket has been on an economic crisis having sank in huge debts. In early August 2020, the premise revealed that it owed various suppliers a debt of 6.2 billion Kenya shillings.
The management of the retailer had said they would pay 40% of the total debt for a period of two years. As a result, the supermarket was put under watch by the Competition Authority Of Kenya (CAK) having defaulted to pay its suppliers.
The move saw it close most of its branches countrywide in a bid to reduce the cost of operation. At some point, the supermarket was at loggerheads with Hotpoint and Tusker Mattresses after suing it for failing to pay a debt of 248 million. They wanted the high court to compel them to settle the same however, the judge gave Tuskys reprieve.

In his ruling, Justice Francis Tuiyott granted them 45 days to negotiate and try to settle the matter out of court.
The latest decision by these employees to pay themselves could just sink Tuskys’ woos deeper.
