Top 2018 KCPE candidate, Hillary Muriungi is dead

Hillary Muriungi has sadly passed away after battling cancer for years.

Hillary Muriungi Kaume from Meru was the best student in the country in the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

Hillary was diagnosed with a brain tumor after he joined Alliance High School and he underwent surgery to remove the tumor at Nairobi Hospital but it redeveloped and came back again in 2020.

He succumbed to the tumor while in ICU on Friday, May 1 at Nairobi Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment, he was set to undergo surgery outside the country.

“It is true he has died. We are now making arrangements to bring the body back home for burial,” said family spokesperson Elias Mutuma as quoted by The Standard on Sunday, May 3.

Muriungi joined his dream school, Alliance High School after he sat for his KCPE exams at Fred’s Academy in Meru scoring 442 marks.

His family confirmed the sad news while announcing plans to make arrangements to have the body transported to his home village for burial as soon as possible in line with government directives.
