Rosemary Alakie Mboya has passed on.
In 1953, Rosemary was born as a result of Mboya’s traditional marriage with Margaret Ogweno, a teacher.
She was the oldest child of liberation warrior and pioneering minister Tom Mboya during the period of independence.
After a four-year fight with breast cancer, Rosemary Alakie Mboya passed away on Thursday at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi.
She was a director of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and a thespian.
Rosemary, a married woman but without children, studied in the US. Pamela Obonyo, her sister, is 61 years old and recalls that she once worked as the branch manager for Standard Chartered Bank in Ruaraka.
Pamela Mboya, whom Tom Mboya married in church in January 1962, raised up Rosemary.
After joining Legio Maria, an African-initiated religious movement among the Luo people of western Kenya, Rosemary purportedly quit her bank job because it conflicted with her faith.
She and her family resided in Donholm, Nairobi, and she will be laid to rest on December 22 in Kakola village, Kano, Kisumu County.
Condolences to family and friends. R.I.P
